We speak English, French, Spanish, some Greek. Lots of conversations revolve around languages and words. Harry grew up speaking English but learned French while studying Linguistics and Biology at UQAM (Universite du Quebec a Montreal). Joan grew up in a Greek family. We both are learning and speak a bit of Spanish.

I grew up in Duncan, then left after high school to go commercial fishing and tree planting. I did forestry at UBC, then forest ecology and linguistics at UQAM (Montreal). I lived on Lasqueti Island, Montreal, and then Smithers in northern BC but, like the spawning salmon, I eventually returned to the Duncan area. Now I work as a biologist and operate the farm with Joan Kalllis.
